Initially, I delved into key generation systems utilized by major companies like Steamworks and GOG. However, I found that accessing their toolkits wasn't possible as it required for me to have developed alpha ready games to be able to access those commands. So I resorted to studying their development documentation to gather insights on how we could structure our own toolkit.

Going from ideation to design

After identifying the goals and ideal flow of the keygen, I worked with my product manager to execute a design plan that leverages the design system used across Niteout's ecosystems. We wanted to remain consistent with both the mobile application as well as the rest of the admin tools.

Analyzing User Concerns

As a member of the ecommerce team, my role centered on refining user account dashboards to better suit customers' daily shopping needs. Utilizing insights from monthly customer feedback interviews and user data, we were able to identify some key aspects that were missing from the current dashboard experience.

During the initial design phase, I conducted a first pass, but it felt overly fragmented. Recognizing the importance of key usage metrics, especially for potential individual key searches, we realized the need to allocate more space within the design for this critical aspect. Additionally, we would need to be able to differentiate if a key was for "multi-use" or unique single-use keys.

The entire process that continued over the course of 6+ months stressed the importance of collaboration and adaptability. Working closely with various teams, I gained insights into balancing user needs, brand guidelines, and technical requirements. This experience emphasized the significance of communication and flexibility in achieving successful outcomes in complex projects.


It was truly enlightening to collaborate with brands that I know and personally enjoy. Being part of the team creating experiences for customers like myself was an incredibly rewarding opportunity.

Tackling the monster that is multi-brand

Dealing with multiple brands posed the greatest challenge, requiring a dashboard that balanced content integration and adherence to brand guidelines. To address this, I arranged lightning and ideation demos to ensure seamless user experiences and alignment across all brands, making sure each stakeholder's concerns were met, and that all brands were in agreeance on design direction.
